hong kong. live it, love it!

Here I am, sitting at Pacific Coffee Company at The Peak in Hong Kong using the free internet service they provide! It is now really misty outside, and you can barely see the next building, but nonetheless, extremely serene and beautiful. It's kind of being in a different planet, where you're at the top of the world and looking down at everything beneath you. It has been a wonderful, yet tiring two days so far in Asia's most bustling city. Anyway, we were supposed to go to Ripley's Believe it or not but sadly, it was closed. To cheer ourselves up, we did go shopping, again! We've been shopping ourselves crazy over here, shoes, clothes, they're just simply amazing.

Well, we've covered alot of ground these two days. Yesterday, we went shopping at Tsim Sha Tsui, and I got to eat my lovely snacks once again, I swear, if I lived here I would go crazy with all that food. And I found my secret shopping centre too, the one Julienne and I took ages to find the last time, but we only managed to cover two levels, but Sarah and I are desperate to go back in a few days. We headed to the Avenue of Stars after that, and walked with linked arms up and down the broad walkway, taking in the beautiful night scene and hardly noticing the carved stars on the ground, which is the main attraction, really. We took silly photos and just enjoyed the cold breeze whipping through our hair, and it was really great to unwind. Later on, we decided to pamper ourselves at The Peninsula Hotel, probably the most posh hotel in the whole of Hong Kong, and we went up to this place called "Felix" and had dessert there. It was seriously the most lavish restaurant ever, and although we did feel slightly out of place , it was quite an enjoyable experience for me. The table was lined with these pretty lighted candles and gorgeous red and clear rhinestone things scattered all over, and I absolutely adored it! The restroom was something to gush about as well, although we did majorly embarrass ourselves. There's this lady working permanently in the restroom, just standing by the sink (yes, singular, ONE sink. The sink is this huge marble sink with three brass taps which are intricately designed and turn on when you step near) and hand you towels when you are done washing your hands. Like, wow. And at first, I thought it was just a primping room because the water closets are all hidden in these heavy marble doors that just blend it with the wall. And I saw a "Manolo Blahnik" store at the hotel, but it was closed, although I so badly wanted to go in!

Today, we went to Times Square in the morning to shop, but ended up gorging on Ben & Jerry's instead. Well, typical us (or me, at least). Headed to Central and Lan Kwai Fong after that on the tram, and set foot on the famous Mid-level escalator. We had a huge dimsum feast at Yung Kee, apparently Hong Kong's most famous restaurant for roast goose, but it was all sold out! Well, the dimsum was good though. Later on in the cab, we actually saw someone filming! I got all ecstatic and I was so so so pissed that the cab went along too quickly that I couldn't see who it actually was? I mean, what if it were like, Sammi Cheng. I'd have missed this wonderful opportunity!

Okay, better get back to my hot chocolate now.

packing list for hong kong.

Packing list for Hong Kong:

Jackets, sweaters, pull-overs. You see, I have come up with the most brilliant excuse to bring loads of these. They're the only time to show them off! On this tropical island, when do i actually get to wear my jackets? To the movies, to concerts, to erm....lecture theatres. So my point is, this should be like the priority for my packing list. Okay, let's go.

1) Mom's black wool coat with the fake fur lining she got from London.

Okay, strike that out, because I don't think she will ever trust me with that, and she just dry-cleaned it.

1) Navy Abercrombie & Fitch jacket. (Yes! I finally get to wear it.)

2) GAP denim jacket.

3) Green wool sweater from Espirit.

4) White Ripcurl jacket. (I'm still pondering on this one, the fabric isn't all that thick.)

5) Red MNG jacket with the white stripes. (I wore that the last time to Hong Kong, and red isn't exactly the easiest colour to match.)

5) Black La Senza lingerie-turned-jacket. (Can you believe it, I got that at a sale, and since it looked pretty much like a jacket anyway, who cares if it was from a lingerie store?!)

6) Black turtleneck. (Boring, but matches anything.)

7) Blue and white scarf.

8) Grey Fox scarf. (Do I really need two scarves? Hmm.)

It isn't even really winter, I'm just trying to bring most of my winter clothing because well, I never get to wear them! And I am going for five days, maybe I should rethink some of these items. I hate packing, and I've got the habit of always leaving with an almost full suitcase and ending up having to bring another bag for the stuff I buy back. In "Shopaholic Takes Manhattan", Becky Bloomwood uses FedEx to ship her entire wardrobe to her holiday destination, because according to her, you can't decide what you want to wear beforehand, it all comes with the MOOD of the day. And I happen to totally agree. Too bad I can't FedEx. So back to my list.

Jeans. Logically, I can only choose two. Erm, my faded Top Shop ones are good because they...well, they're new, and I like the way my MNG ones fit. I should take those two, but then...I like my Zara ones too.

OH, damnit. I'll continue tomorrow.

the perks of hong kong.

i am really making an effort on this blogger thing. i am pretty proud of this, if i do say so myself. :)

just got back from two booorring theory lessons for driving at CDC, gosh... there was this horribly irritating indian lady who could not stop trying to show off her knowledge and play miss know-it-all, and another indian guy who was simply trying to compete with her. really, i've nothing against indians but these two people were so ANNOYING.

we-ell, met up with april and sarah yesterday (ling couldn't make it) to get things finalised for our hong kong trip. i still can't believe it! in exactly four days time, i'll be jetsetting to my favourite country in asia. and i will be shopping in ladies market, pubbing at lan kwai fong, shopping at tsim sha tsui, pretending to be one of the great ones at the avenue of stars, shopping at times square, having the wind blow through my hair at victoria's peak, shopping at jordan.... oh gosh, how many times have i mentioned shopping.

i must keep my VISA all tucked away in the safe in the hotel room, or things could really get out of control. better yet, get april to keep it in her wallet. (she's really good with stuff like that, and has amazing self-control...unless it comes to chocolate.)

one of the great things about hong kong is that you never know when you might bump into a celebrity - and so a notebook, pen and digital camera are the most useful things to have around when you're cruising down the streets. that's what i did the last time, and esther teased me to no end.

hmm, my luck might change this time round. hah!

victoria's secret

i don't know why i can't sleep tonight. i guess i'm just a little teeny weeny bit high now that i'm going to get... a victoria's secret bra! ahhhhhh. i've just got off talking to ying, who lives in new york (damnit, i'm so envious) and she promised to get me one for my birthday! after months of obsessing and practically drooling at the colourful array it offers at the website, i'm finally going to get my own. i mean, i would have gotten one long ago if not for the fact that it only delivers within the USA, which is bloody pointless, cos they already have countless shops there, so why can't they do shipping overseas instead?! and who knew choosing a bra could be so fun? there are like a million collections - angels by victoria's secret, victoria's secret PINK, glamour by victoria's secret etc! and then i had to get round to finding out my bra size, which resulted in me measuring my bust and praying that no one walks in. so i settled on a victoria's secret PINK one, which has a pretty simple design but looks fab, especially on that model in a size that shall not be revealed. and then she decided to get me a panty too which then led to more measurements, ahem. ying's such a sweetheart, i simply love her.

AHHH! VICTORIA'S SECRET!

you know, if i could, i would buy the whole store down.

and would someone approach me offering to buy me a pair of jimmy choos? i saw these amazing pale pink ones at the online store, it is so exquisite and so perfect. sighhhh.

i've been on a shopping craze lately ever since i discovered the major sales in KL last week when i was on holiday there. my best buy was this fcuk top that was a whole $20 more expensive in the singapore store! (yes, i checked once i got back just to leave me feeling ecstatic once again) and today, there was this branded sale at the convention centre, so of course i headed down, and got myself a GAP denim jacket for $40! i would have bought more, if my mom weren't there and eyeing every single purchase cos she knows i already spent a bomb in KL. oh well, she did end up paying for the jacket.

my pictures aren't fixed yet....hmm, xiujuan, if you see this, could you puh-leessee help me re-do them? mwaaah. :)
